We visited Plaza Premium Lounge at Frankfurt Airport's Terminal 2 before flying out to Hong Kong. The lounge offered good services but its design was a little outdated. We can still recommend this lounge for passengers who need to relax and enjoy tasty food before continuing their journey. Read more from our lounge review.

Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt Airport is the 4th busiest airport in Europe. Almost every international European airline flies multiple times a day to this big German city. In addition, the airport is the hub of Lufthansa - Germany's flag carrier.
Frankfurt Airport has two terminals. Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners dominate Frankfurt Airport's Terminal 1 while Terminal 2 is used by other airlines. It is possible to move between these two terminals using the free shuttle service called SkyLine. This train, SkyLine operates both on the transit and public side. Terminals of Frankfurt Airport are connected so passengers who aren't in a hurry may also choose to walk from one terminal to the other.
Plaza Premium Lounge
Plaza Premium Lounge welcomes passengers departing to non-Schengen destinations from terminal 2 of Frankfurt Airport. Since terminals 1 and 2 are connected, it is also possible (even though it's not practical) to visit the lounge from terminal 1. Plaza Premium Lounge is operated by Hong Kong Plaza Premium Group which is known for its high-quality airport lounges in major airports around the globe.
Location
Plaza Premium Lounge is located after the passport control but before the security checks. That means you need to prepare 30 minutes extra time after a lounge visit to clear the security check before reaching your gate.
The lounge is at a corner of Terminal 2 on level 3 near gate D08. The signs leading to the lounge are clear. The location is peaceful but it may take half an hour to reach and complete the security check. It is important to choose the correct security check leading to your departure gate as many of them exist.
Plaza Premium Lounge welcomes both departing and arriving passengers.
How to Get in?
Plaza Premium is a pay-in lounge. You can pay the entrance fee on the spot or pre-purchase a visit on Plaza Premium website. Denied access to the airport lounge can be a possibility if the lounge is so busy. Plaza Premium Lounge welcomes American Express Platinum cardholders and airline customers with a lounge invitation free of charge.
We recommend purchasing a lounge visit before the journey to guarantee access also during busy hours.
Our Visit to the Lounge
We visited Plaza Premium Lounge at Frankfurt Aiport after landing from an early Helsinki flight before continuing to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific. First, we needed to clear the passport control in Terminal 2. Then, we just followed the signs to Plaza Premium Lounge and found the lounge easily. We were somehow unlucky to notice that our departing gate was at the opposite corner of the terminal. However, still, it was only 10 minutes walk away from the lounge. Even though the lounge's location was not optimal this time, for many other passengers the site may be perfect. For example, the lounge is the best match for people flying out from Concourse D at Frankfurt Airport.
First Impression
We arrived at an almost empty lounge. The receptionist welcomed us in a friendly way and after a few minutes, we could choose the best seats in the lounge. We used American Express Platinum card to get complimentary access.
The first impression was warm but the lounge looked older than we had expected. Usually, Plaza Premium Lounges are stylish and in perfect condition but the lounge at Frankfurt is not as shiny. If older furniture and more traditional design are not issues, this lounge is still a good choice.
There is no tarmac view from the lounge but large windows open to parking areas, roads and Skyline tracks. In other words, this lounge does not offer any special view but the location at a corner makes it bright and the lounge is also spacious. Plaza Premium Lounge is a perfect place to relax in a quiet environment.
Food and Drinks
Food and Drinks are one of the most important complementary services in any lounge. Plaza Premium Lounge does this part well.
During our visit, the lounge served water and beer bottles, wine and soft drinks from a machine. Banana smoothies were a refreshing surprise. Moreover, traditional juices were also available.
For food, we got Asian-style rendang, potatoes, tortillas and croissants. Also, cookies, candies and fruits were available. The selection was better than in average airport lounges.
In Plaza Premium Lounge, you can enjoy a good warm meal, snacks or just have some drinks.
Facilities
We liked that the lounge had different kinds of tables and chairs. For work, you can choose a work desk and a simple chair. For relaxing, softer chairs next to the windows are better. During our visit, the lounge was almost empty so we could easily choose our preferred seat.
The lounge had a unique flight information monitor in front of the reception desk. The flight monitor looked modern but the information is quite small so it might not be visually friendly for people with declined vision compared to traditional flight monitors which display information in the bigger text.
The lounge had a playroom. In practice, nothing happened there. In the room, there was a sofa, a table soccer game and a table. It is a little difficult to imagine to whom this room was meant.
There are power sockets everywhere in the lounge. Charging devices and using laptops have been made easy.
Workdesks
For lounge visitors needing to do some work on their laptops, it would be suitable to work on a proper desk. Luckily Plaza Premium Lounge at Frankfurt Airport has a few of them.
Wi-Fi
Reliable Wi-Fi is necessary either for business or leisure travellers. Airports have Wi-Fi services but they are often very slow due to the huge volume of concurrent users. That is why lounges offer dedicated Wi-Fi for their customers.
Plaza Premium Lounge had a well-working Wi-Fi. We connected our laptop to the network without challenges and the network worked well and fast. The Wi-Fi was free to use and no need for a password to connect.
Showers
Usually, we are not interested in having a shower in a lounge but this time we made an exception. We had a long flight ahead so we wanted to feel fresh. Luckily, Plaza Premium Lounge in Frankfurt Airport had two showers without the need to pay extra cost to use it. To access them, we just needed to give our boarding pass to the staff who friendly guided us to the shower area. There were two private showers and inside each shower room was a toilet. Towels, comb, shower gel and the hairdryer were provided.
The shower area is located in an adjacent room but the outer space inside this separate room isn't obviously in use during our visit as it seems to be under maintenance work. Overall, the shower facility is clean and has good water pressure.
Toilets
The lounge has toilets for males and females. It is sometimes annoying to notice that even many good lounges in major airports do not have toilets inside their premises. Plaza Premium Lounge is not one of them.
Rating
We rate Plaza Premium Lounge at Frankfurt Airport as a 4-star lounge. The overall experience we had compared to other Plaza Lounges we have previously visited is not equally good but still a very nice place to relax before the flight. The food is good, the drink selections are okay, and there is a lot of space, so it is easy to work in the lounge. Access to the shower without extra fees is also a good complimentary service.
